Last week we set out to shoot in one of our very favorite spots in Sedona! This time for an anniversary session! And we’ve been itching to share these photos ever since, so you’ll definitely want to read on! Will and Krysten, who traveled here all the way from Georgia, pulled up next to us in their rented Jeep Wrangler (perfect for getting around the desert) and greeted us with hugs. You see, Krysten had found us on google and contacted us several months ago when she and her hubby, Will, started planning their trip to Arizona. They were traveling here for a work conference in Phoenix, but decided to take advantage of this opportunity and make it an anniversary celebration too. Little did they know at the time of contacting us, that this trip would also turn into their Sedona babymoon! They are expecting their first baby, a little boy, later this winter.
this trip would also turn into their Sedona babymoon!
Over the next few months, we enjoyed getting to know them through emails and planning. Through several conversations back and forth, we learned that they are celebrating 10 years together and 5 years married! And how she traveled a lot as a kid and as a result prefers European chocolates and how Will loves a Carmel Macchiato and doesn’t care who knows it! We can’t blame you Will, we agree that’s a fine cup of coffee!
Will and Krysten unintentionally met online in college, when Facebook was still used for socializing
They were both freshman at the University of Georgia and wanted to get to know their peers. A facebook group had been set up for the new freshman to get to know each other better. Which is where they first met and they have been together ever since. And they make a great couple, always supporting and encouraging each other to grow. When Will was unsatisfied with his retail job that he thought he’d never get out of (we know the feeling) Krysten was in his corner, cheering him on to try something new. They are now both academic advisors at the same school where they met and fell in love, all those years ago.
As we strolled along the beautiful mountain side we stopped to take a break. We stood in the shade to cool off (it was unseasonably warm) and drank some water while Will shared their proposal story with us. When the day finally came for him to pop the question, he was fairly certain she knew what was going on. But when he bent down on one knee, and opened the box…it was upside down! (oops) Now this is actually not the first time we’ve heard of this happening, we’ve witnessed it before! I guess with a lot of ring boxes, it’s just hard to tell which side is up. But, of course she happily said yes! Will and Krysten now spend their free time enjoying football together (in true Bull Dog fashion) and traveling. We loved her ring and the story along with it. The stone, her grandmothers diamond, was custom set in a unique antique style. And her necklace, a sweet gift from Will’s mother when she discovered Krysten was expecting, is a beautifully displayed Mother of Pearl.
This past summer Northern Arizona has seen several wildfires, the most recent one had put Sedona in a layer of haze.
You may think this would a bad thing for photography, but we embraced it as a beautiful opportunity. As we hiked along the path to Baby Bell Rock, the red rock formations in the distance looked like they were draped in a veil. Not a super thick smoke, but just enough to show off that desert glow even more. Perfect for Krysten and Will’s anniversary session. This was their first time in the Southwest, so we were excited to show them how beautiful our desert is!
When we began photographing these two, we were admiring how perfect Krysten’s green dress was for the Sedona landscape, when we realized how sweet and natural Will and Krysten are together. Even after ten years, they’ve got great chemistry. He loves to playfully lick her face, which we think is endearing. We laughed with them about how Priscilla’s mom has always done that to her too, and decided that maybe it’s a southern thing, I dunno. As we continued on, we took our time enjoying the views and talking about how quiet the earth is to tread on and how peaceful it is. We all agreed that standing out there looking at the vast landscape reminds us of how small we are in the world. And we had the whole park to ourselves, which only added to that lovely feeling.
And then standing there atop a Sedona cliff, lost in a sea of red rocks, he took her hand in his…and they danced…
Her hair blowing gently in the wind, with her head resting on his shoulder, they were just so comfortable in each others arms. We love getting to witness these moments in other couples relationships. You may have noticed by now that we have a passion for photographing people in love and telling their story. This Sedona babymoon shoot in the desert is just another beautiful chapter in Krysten and Will’s love story. We were so honored to be able to photograph them during this exciting season in their lives.
Krysten, thanks for taking the time to do some research on Sedona photographers! We’re so glad you found us! We truly enjoyed getting to know you and Will and our time together. Thank you both for sharing with us and being so open. You guys made some beautiful memories dancing on those red rocks but so did we! Hey, maybe one day, if we ever make it out to Georgia you could show us around, you know we’re dying to see that crazy big aquarium in the ATL! Guys, it has three whale sharks…three!!!
